Women in India & Mental Health Experts - Abandonment in Relationships
Hi, I am working on an upcoming byline for The Indian Express around the viral term 'alpine divorce' -- a phrase revived through social media that refers to some men abandoning their partners in isolated situations.
While the term itself sounds extreme, I’m interested in something deeper and more relatable for many Indian women: the fear of being left unsupported by someone you trust.
In the Indian context, I want to move beyond the literal interpretation and understand what abandonment can look like in everyday relationships.
This could mean:
• Being left alone or unsupported in unfamiliar situations
• A partner emotionally withdrawing during conflict or crisis
• Feeling neglected during moments of vulnerability
• Realising that someone you rely on repeatedly “disappears” when you need them most
I’m looking to speak with women in India who have experienced this -- whether physically, emotionally, or relationally. Your experience does not have to resemble the dramatic 'alpine' version. Often, the quieter moments stay with us longer.
I’m also looking to connect with mental health experts who can help unpack:
• Why abandonment can trigger such a strong psychological response
• Whether these behaviours reflect deeper patterns like lack of empathy, passive aggression, or control
• How people can distinguish between an isolated lapse and a pattern of unsafe behaviour
Please comment below or DM me if you'd be open to speaking, or tag someone who may be willing to contribute. #journorequest
