Adults 20s-40s - Family Wealth & Financial Safety Nets

Looking for sources for a NYT piece on family money + financial safety nets Hi! Mods kindly approved me posting this here. I’m Hanna Horvath, a CFP and writer, and I’m currently reporting an opinion piece for The New York Times about the growing role family wealth plays in young adults’ financial lives. I’m particularly interested in the idea that two people can earn similar incomes but have completely different levels of financial security depending on whether they have a family safety net behind them. That support might mean parents helping with college, rent, a down payment, childcare, emergencies, or simply knowing someone could step in if you lost your job. On the other side, I’m equally interested in people who don’t have that backstop — or who financially support their parents instead. I’d love to speak with people about how this has affected decisions around things like: Jobs or career risks Housing / homeownership Starting a business or going freelance Student debt Marriage or having children Saving and investing How comfortable you feel taking financial risks or dealing with setbacks I’m especially interested in hearing from people in their 20s, 30s and 40s, hoping to chat with people with very different levels of family support. This week she published a follow-up in which her daughter, Najya, now 16, tells her she never got the education she wanted. And Nikole apologized. I've disagreed with Nikole about integration and school choice for years, sometimes in haste and not always kindly. Her essay is the most honest thing I've read from the integration side of this debate, and it deserved a serious response, so I wrote one.
