Executive Search Firms - AI Impact On Junior Learning

If AI does the junior work in executive search, how will junior people learn? In Nexco.ai's latest research, 72% of search firms explicitly kept relationships, assessment or final judgement in human hands. Yet many are already using, or planning to use, AI for earlier stages of the work, including mapping and document drafting. It got me thinking about how that judgement developed in my own career. Preparing a candidate report involves noticing where the evidence is thin, deciding what matters and having your conclusions challenged by someone more experienced. As AI takes on more of the preparation, those opportunities to learn may become less obvious, and certainly less automatic. Firms will need to deliberately create opportunities for learning. For example, junior colleagues could spend more time in client conversations and discussing difficult assessments with partners. That would require experienced people to make time, and juniors to have enough involvement to form a view of their own. But it could also offer a much richer and faster learning experience than the way many of us learned. I’d be interested to hear how search firms are thinking about this as part of our research for the third edition of the State of AI in Executive Search report. Penn State Students, Faculty & Alumni - Experiences Of Love

What does it actually mean to love someone? Since arriving at Penn State University, I’ve started working on my second book, exploring a question that sounds simple until you actually try to answer it: what does it mean to love? A huge part of the book will come from conversations with real people and the completely different ways we experience love. I’ve already arranged interviews with my Penn State philosophy professor and an 18-year-old student who has been in love with someone he never actually dated. Two people at very different stages of life, with very different experiences. Now I want to widen that conversation. I’d love to speak with Penn State students, faculty and alumni about their experiences and perspectives on love. First love, marriage, heartbreak, divorce, unrequited love, decades-long relationships, loss, choosing to stay, choosing to leave, or something I haven’t even considered yet. You don’t need an extraordinary story. Sometimes the ordinary ones tell us the most. CEOs & Procurement Leaders US-Canada - Tariff Response Strategies

YOU WERE TOLD THEY WOULD PAY. YOU ARE. But for the executives and business owners in my network, I think there is a more important question: What are you doing about it? Take Canada. Recent U.S. tariffs and Canadian counter-tariffs are hitting specific sectors with high new costs, including steel, aluminum, appliances, agricultural equipment, plastics, and other products. That means somebody inside a company is making decisions right now. Do you raise prices? Absorb the cost and take the margin hit? Renegotiate with suppliers? Shift sourcing? Redesign the product? Build more domestic capacity? Those are not political questions. Those are management decisions. And I think something bigger is happening. For decades, we taught executives to optimize supply chains for efficiency: lower costs, leaner inventory, fewer redundancies, just-in-time delivery. But what happens when the cheapest supply chain becomes the riskiest supply chain? Tariffs are only one variable. Add geopolitical instability, wars, shipping disruptions and rapidly changing trade relationships, and perhaps the executive playbook has to change. Maybe the next competitive advantage is not efficiency. Maybe it is optionality. The ability to change suppliers. Change markets. Change inputs. Change pricing. And do it before a disruption becomes a crisis. So I am curious about what is happening inside companies right now. CEOs, CFOs, procurement leaders, operators, and business owners: How are you handling tariff-related cost increases? Are you passing them through, absorbing them, renegotiating, or redesigning your supply chain? **Would you like to add your voice to a national oral history project about what it is like to live through the arrival of AI?** I have launched "Who We Are Now: First-Person Stories from a World Being Changed by AI", a national oral history project capturing people's experiences with AI now, while the technology is still relatively new and its effects on our lives, our work, and our futures are still unfolding. **You do not need to be an AI expert.** I am interested in how AI is affecting ordinary people in all kinds of ways: at work, at school, at home, in relationships, in creative work, and simply in how we think about the future. I want to hear from people who are excited about AI, worried about it, skeptical of it, benefiting from it, being harmed by it, or still trying to figure out what they think. If you are interested in participating, we would do interview over Zoom and it would last about 30 minutes. The oral history would be an audio recording; the video would not be part of the collection. The format is similar to my first national oral history project. From September 2020 through September 2021, I traveled 12,000 miles across the United States interviewing people from all walks of life about their lives during the COVID pandemic. The audio files of all the interviews are going to be preserved at a university. Excerpts from 100 of those interviews were published by UNC Press in association with the Duke Center for Documentary Studies in *Who We Are Now: Stories of What Americans Lost and Found During the COVID-19 Pandemic*, which was named a “2023 Outstanding Academic Title” by the American Association of College and Research Libraries. Many oral histories are collected years after the events they document. I am interested in something different: capturing what people are thinking, feeling, experiencing, and saying while history is still happening.
