Hearing-Impaired L&D Professionals - Cameras On vs Off Access

Cameras On or Off? It's not just a preference or a ‘nice to have’-it's about access. I recently saw a brilliant point made by Eleanor Casely that reinforced my thinking on the 'cameras on versus cameras off' debate in virtual training. Thank you to Sascha Evans for the initial post and to Eleanor for adding such a vital perspective. As it's Deaf Awareness Week (4th to 10th May), it seems like the perfect time to talk about this. In the Learning and Development world, we often talk about camera choice in terms of 'engagement' or 'Zoom fatigue'. But for Eleanor, and many others, it's a matter of basic access. As a person who is deaf, she explained that seeing faces is vital for lip-reading and picking up on the facial expressions that provide tone and meaning. Captions are helpful, but they can lag and miss out on nuance. This highlights a few things we often overlook in our sessions: 1. One size does not fit all: What feels like 'freedom' for one person might be a 'barrier' for someone else who needs to see you to understand you. 2. Discussion is key: We can't design inclusive experiences in a vacuum; we need to talk about what people actually need to succeed. 3. Don't assume: Just because someone hasn't disclosed a hearing impairment doesn't mean they aren't there. 4. Designing for reality: Often, the 'majority choice' becomes the default, which can quietly exclude people who process information differently. As trainers and facilitators, we've got to be pragmatic. It's about designing for the real people in front of us, not an 'ideal' version of a learner. Discussion is key. I'd love to hear from you. What are your experiences with this? Have you had to navigate virtual spaces with a hearing impairment? I’m also looking for a guest! If you're a professional with a hearing impairment working in the training or Learning and Development space, I'd love to have you on my podcast to share your insights. Please do get in touch or tag someone who should be part of this conversation. #DeafAwarenessWeek #LearningAndDevelopment #Inclusion #VirtualTraining #Accessibility

Workers From Underrepresented Backgrounds - Workplace Inclusion

Some projects move slowly… not because they matter less, but because they matter so much that you want to do them properly. Lately, my available time for my book research has become much more limited. Between work, studies, and life, progress sometimes feels like a drop in the ocean. But this week, I finally completed the introduction and Chapter 1. And honestly? It feels like an important milestone. This book was never meant to be “just” a book about HR. It is becoming a reflection about people, leadership, work, inclusion, belonging, discrimination, ethics, and the many ways organizations shape human lives, positively and negatively. It is built through real stories, real experiences, and many conversations. I am now moving into the next phase of interviews, and I am looking to connect with people who would be open to sharing their experiences regarding the job market and workplace realities. In particular, I would love to speak with: • Expats and immigrants • Women navigating workplace inequalities • Women going through IVF or infertility journeys • Women who experienced miscarriage • Women navigating menopause in the workplace • Women suffering from endometriosis or chronic invisible conditions • Neurodivergent professionals • Members of the LGBTQIA+ community • People with physical disabilities or chronic illnesses • Individuals who struggled to obtain workplace accommodations • Professionals from underrepresented socio-economic or cultural backgrounds • People who experienced discrimination, exclusion, or barriers in recruitment or at work • People transitioning careers later in life • Older professionals facing age bias At the same time, I would also love to speak with: • CEOs • Founders • CHROs • HR leaders and managers • DEI professionals • Company leaders who are genuinely trying to build more inclusive workplaces Do you have positive practices to share? Have you implemented something differently? How do you create belonging inside your teams? How do you ensure people feel seen, respected, and included? I am particularly interested in concrete actions: not only policies on paper, but things that truly make a difference in people’s lives. My availability is reduced at the moment, but I can usually arrange discussions: • on weekdays after 17:00 • occasionally during lunchtime • and during weekends if needed If you would be open to a conversation, or if you know someone whose voice deserves to be heard, I would truly appreciate the connection. Thank you again to everyone who has already contributed to this journey. #PeopleAndCulture #WorkplaceInclusion #LeadershipAndHR

Unbanked Microentrepreneurs in India - Denied Formal Credit

She's up at 4 AM every day. Never missed a payment in her life. Her bank won't lend her ₹50,000. She sells vegetables from a pushcart in Lokhandwala Market,Mumbai. Disciplined. Hardworking. Zero debt. Impeccable with money. CIBIL score: 0. Not because she's a bad borrower. Because she was never allowed to be any kind of borrower. The only person who would lend her ₹50,000 charged 5% per month, that's 60% annual interest. For someone who had never defaulted on anything, ever. This is not a rare story, this is the story of 400 million Indians. People the formal banking system was never designed to see. Here's what's changing: → AI no longer needs your CIBIL score → Your UPI transaction history IS your credit history → GST filings = real-time cash flow proof for 14.4M businesses → RBI's new ULI platform: loan processing 6 weeks → 10 minutes → AI approval rates for first-time borrowers: up from 16% to 48% The vegetable seller in Mumbai can now get her loan. Not because banks suddenly became generous. Because AI can finally see what humans missed for decades. I've written the full story in Article 03 of my BFSI & AI series. But first — I want to hear from you. Do you know someone who was denied formal credit despite being perfectly capable of repaying? Tell their story in the comments. I'll personally respond to every single one. And the most powerful stories will be featured in my next piece. (If this resonated — follow me. Every week I write about the AI revolution quietly reshaping Indian finance for 500 million people.) #BFSI #FinancialInclusion #AI #CreditInclusion #IndianBanking #Fintech #MSME #ULI

San Jose Earthquakes Leaders - SportsTech, Inclusion & Scouting

Going to the San Jose Earthquakes Soccer office now feels like home. Yesterday, I spent another energizing evening there with President Jared Shawlee and Head Scout Ian Russell, hearing how the club is evolving under Coach Bruce Arena's leadership. What stayed with me wasn't just what they're building, but how. The conversations - * Scouting talent globally using advanced analytics and tech tracking ways shaping decisions * Academy way of evolving and adding early talent to groom further * Creating inclusive pathways for autistic athletes and young players 💙 On this last point, I witnessed something moving. A Bay Area autism support representative personally thanked Jared for arranging a special section for autistic kids at one of the previous match. It took me back to my own moment last year, being part of the Women International Day #cointoss. A small gesture, but powerful in how it represented belonging and leadership that opens doors. I couldn't stay for the full match, but waking up to the Earthquakes' win over Austin FC ⚽ felt like perfect punctuation. Strategy described in the office showed up on the pitch! Here's what struck me - - Sports isn't just supported by technology, it's being reimagined by it. - Computer vision. ML injury prediction. VR training. Data-driven scouting. Tech isn't behind the scenes anymore. It's the strategic core. This is why I built Passionate Pulse. To capture moments where innovation meets purpose across industries, where builders are reshaping what's possible! Whether it's SportsTech, HealthTech, MediaTech, ConstructionTech, or FinTech—the pattern is the same. Visionaries using technology to change the rules. 📢 If you're building tech that's redefining your industry, I want to hear your story. Let's talk about - ✓ Hard problems you're solving ✓ How you're using AI, data, or emerging tech ✓ The future you're building DM me. Let's get your transformation story out there. That Earthquakes win was proof -> vision + execution = results. #PassionatePulse #SanJoseEarthquakes #SportsInnovation #FounderStories #TechForGood #AIinSports #BuildingTheFuture #InclusionMatters

Parents With EOTAS Experience - Building Effective Support Packages

“Thanks Kate… this feels really therapeutic, I don’t think I’ve ever really laid it all out like this before.” That’s what Leah said after I interviewed her and captured her story. Last year, as part of the research for our book, I captured around 30 case studies about the experiences of parents navigating the SEND system, families fighting to get their children the support they’re legally entitled to and so desperately need. Their stories matter, both for awareness, and for validation too, helping parents feel less alone and better informed. Now I want to turn my focus to something that comes up time and time again, but still feels misunderstood: 🌈 EOTAS (Education Otherwise Than At School) - (sometimes referred to as EOTISC, Education Otherwise Than In School or College) 🌈 For those who aren’t familiar with this term, it’s one way a local authority can fund a child’s education when they aren’t able attend school. Think of it like a tailored education package, where provision, support and activities are funded outside of a traditional school setting. Like homeschooling but where the local authority retain responsibility for ensuring the child gets a suitable full time education, and for footing the bill. But there’s very little clarity around what good looks like. 🤷♀️ What’s actually possible?
💁♀️ What works well in practice?
🤷♀️ What should families be pushing for?
🙅♀️ And where is the system falling short again? I recently found out our local authority hadn’t even sent off our latest school consultation when I thought we were expecting for responses. We now won’t hear anything until April 20. EOTAS is our backup if this “last chance saloon” school can’t meet her needs. And while I can’t control how long the local authority sits on applications… I can control what I do next. Hyper-curiosity mode fully activated. If EOTAS becomes our reality, I want to be ready to build the best possible package for my daughter. One that truly meets her needs, supports her wellbeing, and gives her a real chance to thrive. And if I can help other parents do the same along the way, even better. Let’s figure it out together. 🩷❤️🧡💛 CAN YOU HELP? 💛🧡❤️🩷 I’d love to speak to parents with experience of EOTAS. Those who’ve made it work, and those who’ve struggled. If that’s you, and you’d be open to sharing your story: 👉 Comment below 👉 Visit Neuroextraordinary (.co.uk)to read some of the case studies I’ve already completed (I’m adding more to the community section regularly) #SEND #EOTAS #Neurodiversity #Education #Inclusion #ParentVoices By the way, do you like the photo? It was taken by the fabulous Victoria Beddoes in the King’s Cross Wallacespace’s gorgeous building! 💖

Sources - Health Insurance New Benefits & Senior Coverage Gap - India

I am working on two stories about health insurance in India, and I am looking for sources. #journorequest Story 1 is about how insurance policies have evolved beyond basic hospitalisation. Mental health care, teleconsultations, LASIK, and dental care are making their way into modern plans. This story explains how insurance has evolved, what these newer inclusions actually cover in real life, helping readers understand what really matters beyond basic coverage. Story 2 is about a gap that hits hardest after retirement. Corporate health cover is often the best insurance most people ever have, no cherry-picking, no waiting periods for pre-existing conditions. But it vanishes the day you stop working. For millions of Indian seniors, what is left is a policy full of sub-limits and exclusions nobody explained at purchase. We will also look at the extended cover offered by banks and PSUs post-retirement, what Ayushman Bharat actually delivers, and what questions every senior should be asking their insurer right now. I would love to speak with: → Policyholders who have tried to use newer benefits or found out too late what was not covered → Seniors or their families navigating health insurance post-retirement → Retired bank, PSU, or corporate employees dealing with post-retirement cover → Insurance agents, brokers, or financial planners advising on health cover → Claims or product professionals at general insurance companies → Researchers or policy experts working on senior health coverage or Ayushman Bharat If any of this is your domain or you know someone whose story should be told, please DM me or tag them below.
